Despite it being five years since he last set foot on NBA hardwood, 38-year-old point guard Baron Davis believes he can return and put up double digits for any team that will have him.
Davis said as much in a tweet on Monday. “I can avg 12pt 6asst next year. In the NBA. #comebackplayeroftheyear,” he wrote.
It’s a bold claim from a man who averaged only 6.1 points and 4.5 assists during his final season with the Knicks. Not to mention it’s been six years since he averaged at least 12 points and six assists back in 2010-11.
After leaving the Knicks in 2012 with a knee injury, Davis went on to sign with the D-League Delaware 87ers in March 2016, averaging 12.8 points and 3.5 assists for the 2015-16 season.
If Davis were to be picked up by a team, he would become the fifth oldest active player in the NBA after 40-year-old free agent Vince Carter, 39-year-old free agent Jason Terry, and 39-year-old ballers Dirk Nowitzki and Manu Ginobili.
