Remy Ma showed what sets her apart from a lot of other women who’ve been introduced into the rap game over the past several years, when during her set at the 2017 Essence Music Festival she cut the music and began to kick a few bars a capella.
“They say I’m cocky – they not lying!/ I hold my nuts like an insane asylum/ I don’t need a gun for broads, I need pantie liners/ ’cause all of these girls is straight vagina,” she spit, amid a succession of rhymes that hit with strong wordplay and delivery.
Remy was performing among a group of stars including Miche’le, Teyana Taylor, Jhene Aiko and Lalah Hathaway, to name a few. They convened to rock New Orleans’ Superdome crowd under the curation of Mary J. Blige.
