The 101st annual Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island, Brooklyn proved to be a classic on Tuesday, July 4. That’s because reigning champion Joey Chestnut did the most during the 10-minute race. Leading up to the well-publicized event, the record for wieners ingested stood at 70. Chestnut downed 72, setting a new high mark while on the way to his 10th Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest victory.
Chestnut won the competition by a four hot dog margin, out-besting Carmen Cincotti, who ate 68 of them. Coming behind Cincotti was 2015 winner Matt Stone. While he’d once again come away with the international title, Chestnut will likely have to detox, as he is said to have likely eaten 20,000 calories or so that included 2,160 milligrams of cholesterol.
