President Trump has agreed to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday (July 7) during a major economic conference in Germany. Sources say this first face-to-face meeting between the two presidents will be a “normal bilateral” meeting. This implies that the meeting will be a much longer and more formal sit down as opposed to the other conversations Trump has scheduled for this Friday. Trump is set to have more brief conversations with officials from Mexico, Japan, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The meeting between Trump and Putin will mark the first time in two years since the Russian President has formally met with United States officials. It also comes on the heels of the ongoing investigation into Russia’s role in tampering with the 2016 United States Presidential Election. As for what the meeting will actually be about, Trump’s national security advisor H.R. McMaster told reporters, “There’s no specific agenda. It’s really going to be whatever the president wants to talk about.”
